One way we provided each entity with their own voice within the system was to institute sub-domaining technology (such as carmel.stvincent.org, shown above). This allowed St.Vincent Health to offer their individual hospitals a specific URL, while still presenting them as part of the larger health system. This “micro-site” approach has quickly been adopted across numerous channels, driving traffic directly to internal pages, multiple service offerings, important features and specialized areas of interest. Further, these sub-domains have proven to be a more flexible solution since they do not require the maintenance or renewal costs that unique domain name procurement requires.
